For many young American soccer talents growing up, getting into a professional academy at an early age is a dream. For Antonio Pugliese, it has become a reality. The eighteen year old from Vermont recently signed with CD Castellon, whose first team play in the third tier of Spanish football. After starting 4 of the 5 last matches and helping the team into form with three straight wins, Pugliese was officially called up to play in the first team for Castellon. The United States - born player spent three years at the FC Barcelona Academy in Arizona, before moving to the GPS Spain International Academy last September.
Arriving at the Spain International Academy, Pugliese started out the season with the Club La Vall U19’s, where he was considered one of the team’s top players. Unfortunately, due to injury, he was not able to truly showcase his talent until December, but he made an immediate impact when he returned to the squad, and options started to arise. That is when he was approached by CD Castellon, who he then trialled with and was quickly signed shortly after.
